Expressions of interest open for Nimmie-Caira

19 May 2017

Member for Murray Adrian Piccoli has welcomed the commencement of an open tender and expression of interest period for the southern NSW Nimmie-Caira property, representing a significant milestone in the project and unique opportunity in securing the long-term prosperity of the site.

Mr Piccoli said the NSW Government has commenced the open tender expression of interest process for the 85,000 hectare natural resource of Nimmie-Caira, situated in the State’s Riverina.

“The NSW Government looks forward to hearing from the market on innovative proposals that allow us to meet important environmental and aboriginal cultural outcomes while at the same time providing strong commercial opportunities for interested parties,” Mr Piccoli said.

“Innovative proposals could come by way of alternate income sources such as bio-banking and biodiversity offsets, private native forests or inclusive social solutions.”

“The flow on opportunities from this process are immense, particularly as we look at other parcels of lands across NSW that are trying to achieve similar triple bottom line outcomes,” Mr Piccoli added.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Water, Niall Blair said the NSW Government is committed to an open and transparent process for future development of the Nimmie-Caira Project.

“Market consultants, Palladium, are assisting in the tender process and providing advice to the NSW Government on the best and most sustainable solution for this important parcel of land,” Minister Blair said.

The Expression of Interest period has commenced and submissions must be received by Tuesday 11 July 2017.  The EOI will be followed by a second Request for Proposal stage.

The Nimmie-Caira Project is funded by the Australian Government’s Sustainable Rural Water Use and Infrastructure Program, as part of the implementation of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan in NSW.  The NSW Department of Primary Industries - Water (DPIW) is the lead agency responsible for delivering the Project.

The NSW water-saving project aims to protect and restore the environment, relaxing constraints to water delivery and helping bridge the gap to sustainable diversion limits in the Murrumbidgee Valley.
