Alternative medicine has been practiced for centuries and it’s still popular. This form of practice aims to reach the healing that has been attained with medicine although this practice is not backed up by research. These have not been tested or is untestable.

Some people still resort to these sorts of practices because some practices have proven benefits to many people, like traditional medicine.

Acupressure

It is a form of massage used by those practicing traditional medicine. The main objective of acupressure is to stimulate the movement of qi or what is referred to as the life energy through 14 channels inside the human body. These meridians are same as those of acupuncture. As believed by those practicing traditional medicine this energy must flow through all the channels and if this energy flow is blocked it is when health issues come about.

It is somewhat similar to acupuncture the difference being that those practicing acupressure use their fingers to do the work.

Though there is not a lot of research done this has shown to relieve nausea and vomiting after surgery or some medical procedure and in some to relieve pain

Acupuncture

Is another commonly practiced therapy that includes injecting very thin needles on a person’s skin at precise points. As explained, it is believed that energy has to flow through the meridians in the body to ensure proper wellbeing, in case this flow is blocked the health issue arises.

Although there is no evidence to back up the claim about meridians, in some studies acupuncture is believed to be of some sort of therapy because needles are pierced in areas of nerves or muscles which results in it being stimulated. This leads to increased blood flow and also triggering the body’s pain killers. For example, acupuncture in Sydney CBD can help to relieve lower back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis, knee pain, migraine or headache and many other conditions.

Aromatherapy

Is the use of plants for healing, it is also called essential oil therapy. This therapy involves using the essential oils to bring about improvement in the well-being of body, mind and soul. The sense of smell and the absorption of these products through the skin is the way this treatment works. These oils are administered through diffusers, inhalers, bathing salts, body cream, lotions, facial steamer, clay masks and hot and cold compresses these can be used alone or in combination.

The benefits of aromatherapy are it helps in managing pain, the quality of sleep is improved, treat headaches and migraines, reduce stress and anxiety.

Ayurvedic medicine

This type of practice originated in India and still in practice. Here the focus is mainly on promoting health and not fighting disease. In order for the wellbeing of the person there needs to be a proper balance between the mind, body and spirit.

In Ayurveda it is believed there is connection between life forces and the body. The main goal is removing impurities, relieving symptoms, reducing worry, increase the body’s resistance to disease and to increase peace and harmony in life.
